ትዝታ

Tizita (ትዝታ — meaning "Memory" or "Reminiscence")

is the deeply personal historical memoir written by Haddis Alemayehu, the legendary author of the masterwork Fikir Eske Mekabir. Moving away from his famous fictional tragedies, this text documents his actual lived experiences during the second Fascist Italian invasion of Ethiopia (1935–1941). Haddis details his early years, the systemic catalyst of the Welwel conflict, and his time fighting on the war front alongside the anti-colonial resistance forces of Ras Imru Haile Selassie. Captured by Italian soldiers, he recounts his subsequent seven-year imprisonment in exile on the Mediterranean islands of Ponza and Lipari. Written in his signature, masterfully detailed prose, the book stands as an invaluable eyewitness chronicle of wartime trauma, patriotic sacrifice, and national survival.
